"Crossroads"
Reviewed by Preston Seider
I have to admit: when I heard that Britney Spears was starring in her own movie, I was
a bit skeptical. How could a woman who has sold over 589 million albums worldwide
(source: PBR.com estimates) live up to the lofty expectations of the movie-going public?
Could a young woman with little acting experience pull off a semi-miracle, and in doing so
give a performance worthy of Oscar consideration? Is there any way that a female musician,
her music geared towards a younger audience, could tell a story that appeals to
a 26-year-old journalist?
The answers are clear: yes, yes, and oh yes. "Crossroads" stars Britney Spears as a young
woman who experiences the trials and tribulations of becoming a full-fledged woman. We've
seen this side of the real Britney, as we've watched her grow from the video-vixen in "…One
More Time" to her current, more Streisand-esque "I'm a Slave 4 U" mold. In this movie, I'm
pretty sure that she travels across the country, having several incidents occur along the
way, and through these incidents she learns a great deal about herself.
One of the main issues of Britney's personal life that is probably not addressed in "Crossroads"
is the presence of Wankstain Hall of Fame member Justin Timberlake. As many of you know, Britney
is involved in a serious relationship with this alleged singer. Unfortunately, this relationship
has served to tarnish her wholesome image, much like when Lisa Marie Presley married self-proclaimed
Non-Child Molester Michael Jackson. I'm not saying Justin Timberlake molests children, mind you;
I am just saying that he's a bitch.
Overall Grade: A-. I would have given this movie a higher grade if it was rated R or if it
also starred Christina Aquilera as her arch-nemesis. Can you imagine the fight scenes?
I need a shower.
