"Midnight Madness"
Starring:
- David Naughton (An American Werewolf in London)
- Stephen Furst (Animal House)
- Eddie Deezen (Grease, every other late 70s, early 80's movie that needed a geek)
Best Line:
- Eugene, Leader of the Nerd Team: "Yeah, they make a smaller moped, but there’s nothing like
having one of these mean machines between your legs."
Rating:
- 7 out of 7 PBRs -- because it's that good
Plot:
Hilarity ensues as 5 teams are chosen to compete in the ultimate game, the "Great All-nighter."
The teams must find and solve clues that lead them in and around LA. to the finish line, with
the winning team claiming a cheesy trophy and bragging rights of "best team." (Who wouldn't want
that shit?)
Review:
This movie is so bad, it's fucking great! You've seen it all before, but who the hell cares?
The Jocks, the Nerds, the Sorority chicks, the Assholes, and the Good Guys all competing in a
scavenger hunt, masterminded by some dude named Leon. Leon is your typical college-level boy
genius, except he looks to be near 40 and is always framed by two nubile roller girls that treat
him as if he were a god. I can only imagine what goes on once these girls get him alone and he
explains the "BIG BANG" theory. The chemistry between those three is amazing.
This movie has it all: romance (a boy and his girl, a boy and his food, a boy and his beer),
drama (Leon's landlord wants to evict him), action (car chases, a stuffed animal fight), and
horror (the twins on the red team – you'll see what I mean). But wait -- it also boasts the
feature film debuts of both Michael J. Fox, as the angry young boy who just needs love, and Paul
Ruebens (AKA Pee Wee Herman) as the video arcade cowboy! Quality performances by both, I assure you.
See this movie. Or, just buy the fucking thing (I picked it up for $9.99 on DVD at Best Buy – well
worth the investment); you are going to want to watch it more than once anyway. Here's my recipe: get
your friends together, get some pizza, and of course, at least a 12 pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon. Then go get laid.
Highlights:
- Pabst Blue Ribbon factory debacle
- Feature film debut of both Michael J. Fox and Paul Ruebens (AKA Pee Wee Herman)
- Silent, Spanish dude on the Blue Team
- The Meat Wagon
- Coming of age subplot of college freshman and yellow team member, Flynch
Unanswered Questions:
- Did young, angry boy ever get his PBR?
- Did Flynch ever call that chick?
- What the fuck was up with the head of hotel security?
- Was the shorthaired girl on the red team gay?
