Earlier this week, Sidearms detailed the six must-see landmarks of the San Francisco area. Partnered alongside him was trusty scribe Salazar,
well equipped with a pen and pad to jot down any mental notes and fun pastimes during the trip.
Let's try to follow the Bagger's thought process along the trip...mostly in chronological order:
Saturday, 8:00am
Well, off to an early start, but we're on our way. A little overcast and quite drowsy, but San Fran is just around
the corner. We'll take the scenic route for added fun. All we need is a little Mickey D's breakfast and all is well.
Saturday, 9:00am
We've officially become the first duo of americans to drive for one hour and not see one goddamm Mcdonalds at all.
There's one....dammit, on the other side of the highway.
Saturday, 9:55am
This blows! I'm exhausted and starving. What time does Mickey D's stop serving breakfast? Aaaghhh! I hate the open road.
Saturday, 10:04am
Mmmm....tasty sausage biscuit. I love life.
Saturday, 3:15pm
Arrival at the Gilroy Outlet Center in search of a Puma outlet store. Just now realized for the first time that Gilroy lays claim
as being the garlic capital of the world.
Saturday, 3:25pm
This Puma outlet shop receives a review equivalent to any Van Heusen outlet store. Awful....D+.
Saturday, 6:00pm
Stop in at Denny's for nourishment. Begin the quest for fired brewed Stroh's beer, but keeping realism in sight, name Lowenbrau and Icehouse as possible substitutes.
Saturday, 6:25pm
0-1 on liquor stores carrying Stroh's.
Saturday, 8:00pm
Must find available and lustful, educated woman to finance Stroh's project. If not, budget remains a strict $100.
Saturday, 10:00pm
Lots of driving, some beautiful scenery, no Stroh's. Check in to Best Western and promptly fall in love with bodacious Myrna behind the counter.
Sunday, 12:00am
Drinking games ensue behind a 12 pack of Keystone Premium and a six of PBR bottles.
Sunday, 12:02am
Salazar passes out.
Sunday, 11:00am
Carpe Diem! Day 2 of Stroh's Project begins!
Sunday, 1:00pm
Becoming more and more clear that Stroh's is unattainable. Early favorites as a possible substitute include PGD Light, Hamm's Premium and Olympia.
Sunday, 4:00pm
Peek in to Red's Corner and nestle in nicely around an Erdinger Weiss Beer. A bit grainy, and certainly not Stroh's, but the barkeep is social and we feel at home.
Cash flow analysis time:
Sidearms: 4 $1s, 7 $.25s, 5 $.10s, 1 $.05, 2 $.01s
Salazar: 1 $100 (Mexican Pesos), 1 $5 (Canadian dollars), 1 $20, 1 $10.
Total: $36.32 American, $100 Mexican, $5 Canadian...plenty.
Sunday, 6:45pm
Drive up to the beach, each sporting a 24oz can of Rainier Ale.
Sunday, 6:46pm
Toss nearly full can of Rainier Ale into garbage can.
Sunday, 9:00pm
Begin quest back to Best Western for attempts at pillow talk with irresistable Myrna.
Sunday, 10:00pm
Succumb to lack of Stroh's and settle for an $8 24 pack of Hamm's Lite.
Sunday, 10:02pm
Salazar passes out.
So there you have it, not all goals accomplished but fun was had by all. By simply continuing to strive for the fine taste
of fire brewed Stroh's, our baggers were able to dig deep into Northern California culture. Where will they head to next? Email
us your suggestions.
