Top 5 Movies starring Saved by the Bell Alumni
- Dead Man on Campus: Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Cooper Frederickson)
Unlike his career defining role as the witty, blonde-haired high school
slacker Zack Morris, Gosselaar turns a 180, portraying a charming, raven-haired college
freshman trying to finagle straight A's by getting a roomate who is on the
brink of death in this comedic gem. Simply put: A film that defines a generation.
- Breaking the Surface: The Greg Louganis Story: Mario Lopez (Louganis)
One of Lopez's finest dramatic performances on film as he gracefully
conveys the story of US Olympian Greg Louganis, from attaining Olympic gold to
contracting the AIDS virus. At least, I think that is what the movie is about, I never
actually saw it. But it must be pretty good if it allowed him to score both Jennifer
Love Hewitt and the Dorito's girl Ali Landry. Although, I'm sure the fine array of
muscle shirts and wife-beaters he sported on Saved by the Bell probably sealed the
deal...lucky bastard.
- Def Jam's How to be a Player: Lark Voorhies (Lisa)
Tell me how you can go wrong with this formula: Lisa Turtle, Gilbert
Gottfried AND MTV's Bill Bellamy....all in one movie?? Can hilarity not
ensue given that lineup?? Answer: No. In fact, I think 20 lucky fans were able
to catch this one in the theaters before it hit the video stores.
- Showgirls: Elizabeth Berkley (Nomi Malone)
This "critic's-favorite" art film showed the entertainment world that
Jesse Spano could play more than just a straight-A student who gets hooked on caffeine
pills and sings "I'm So Excited" at the Max. She can also play a coked-out
stripper who moves to Las Vegas and gives lap dances to the guy from Twin Peaks.
That folks, is what we in the industry call "range."
- The Parent Trap Movies: Talk about continuity in casting, the first two movies in this riveting
series starred none other than Saved by the Bell's favorite junior high school
teacher Miss Carrie Bliss (Haley Mills), and part 3 starred Kelly and Jesse's
replacement Tori (Leanna Creel) as Lisa, one of the Wyatt triplets. I guess that doesn't
make the movies good per se, but it's still worth mentioning....then again, maybe
not.
Honorable Mention:
Charles in Charge: Guest Star: Tiffani Amber Theissen (Jennifer)
This gets honorable mention ONLY because it wasn't a movie, but come on??
Tiffani
Amber Theissen sharing the small screen with a young Nicole Eggert??
Seriously,
is that legal? Were there two hotter chicks that age on TV in 1990?? I know
for sure it wasn't Blossom. If only they could have lured Alyssa Milano over
from Who's the Boss?...the possibilities are endless.
